My current work centres on the use of amateur, commercial and institutional photographic archives to produce sequences of paintings that address social and historical themes through the lived experience of their subjects.

I am interested in using the techniques, conventions and traditions of painting and photography to explore the possibilities for the re-engagement of painting with historical subject matter. In that sense the work is conceived as an extension of the tradition of history painting.

My intention is to critique the means by which historical events are represented, whilst attempting to convey the social implications of those events as vividly as possible.
